Bald is Beautiful: A letter for a fabulous girl by Carola Schmidt
“Hey, girl,
You’re beautiful… and
loved.”
Powerhouse lines that set the premise of a book filled choc-a-block
with love and strength.
Bald is Beautiful: A
letter for a fabulous girl written by Carola
Schmidt and breathtakingly illustrated by Dian Ovieta is a story filled with gumption.
Written in the form of a heartening letter to girls, who are
or will become bald it encourages them to explore and enjoy all the little
things in life that make them happy.
The very thought of losing our hair petrifies most of us, young
or old. Our hair has after all been a part of us since when we were born, grown
with us while also developing a personality of its own.
A haircut alone can be quite traumatic.
So how do we deal with losing ALL of our hair?
By throwing ourselves a Scarf and Hat shower, of course.
What’s that, you may ask?
Quite simply put it’s a thematic party, where every guest
comes attired in a Scarf and Hat. There’s cake, music, chatter, laughter and
most of all a lot of love.
[I love the cool flower hat depicted in this gorgeous
illustration. It just makes me smile]
Carola Schmidt guides
us to keep all our negative feelings aside and instead focus on the here and
now. The book helps reassure by pointing out that all these are fleeting
moments of bad days that will pass quickly if we focus on keeping ourselves happy
and we will emerge stronger as well as prouder of ourselves.
Encouraging the reader to explore the world around and
partake in its myriad joys be it from reading books, spending time with friends
and family or by inspiring other girls; this book also fortifies us…
…with strength,
conviction,
love,
and most
importantly,
SELF-BELIEF.
Inspiring girls all over , so that every time they look in
the mirror they see that they are beautiful inside and out.
Bald is Beautiful
may be classified as a children’s book; however its message of love, strength
and self-belief make it a fabulous read for all, girls and boys included. This
book is fun filled and focuses on happiness and love instead focusing on the
cause of the baldness making this an ideal read not just for cancer survivors
but also for people battling alopecia or head injury. In fact I believe that it
is a great book for all to read to feel self-love and powerful again.
“Bald
is powerful,
Bald
is feminine,
Bald
is delicate,
Bald
is beautiful,
Bald
is lovely,
Bald
is strong.”
So glad I got this readers
copy, it was truly empowering to read. Hope you liked my fair and honest
review.
Happy Reading☺
