Sad Sally Salad by Chris Roy

Our actions and intentions influence our future.

A spiritual principle known in many religions as Karma.

Sad Sally Salad by Chris Roy is a short story for young adults that talks about how our actions affect the world around us, namely climate change.

At a very young age the protagonist Sally discovers her unique ability to talk to animals. This leads her to develop empathy and love for them while creating a lot of problems for her at home.

These problems eventually cause her to run away from home and into the arms of an old hippie woman who brings her up.

Sally uses her gifts to mount a war against environmental groups and the cattle industry in particular. Her gift of ‘do-little’ speech gathers her thousands and thousands of supporters. Her popularity on the other hand also brings her many enemies.

So does Sally manage to make a difference or does the cattle industry quell her voice?

Or does fate do what it does best and play its card?

Sad Sally Salad is a great way to open up the debate with kids on climate change and the consequences of our actions.
