The Widow by Kaira Rouda

"CONTROL THE STORY.
AT ALL COSTS AVOID BECOMING THE STORY.”

A blurb like that has you hooked, hooked and then hooked again some more.

It turns out to be sound advice for a person in the spotlight, especially in politics.

The Widow by Kaira Rouda is filled with that, good sound advice for young, hopeful congress people.

Underneath all this advice though lies a juicy, saucy story. A story about Jody Asher, the singularly most scheming, treacherous, cold-hearted yet so mystically alluring character that I have encountered. Her mystical allure keeps dragging the other characters and us the reader deep into her snare.

Yes I said the word SNARE.

The ease with which Jody Asher has the Capitol and us (the reader) walking into traps we know off, is a testament to the deeply engaging and quirky silent humorous style of writing that Kaira has. You really have to read it to experience it.

The plot is simple. Jody Asher has a plan. Her husband Martin is going to be a political hotshot and she the reigning queen.

Her plan succeeds; until it doesn’t.

Allegations, scandals, backstabbing and death.

As the cookie crumbles around her, Jody scrambles to right everything. Or at least that’s what we are led to believe.

To say more about the story would be to take away the delicious joy of reading it from you.

So I’m just going to end this review with a taste of the twistiness this book holds. In Kaira’s own words,

“It’s funny: perception versus reality.”

This book had me very strangely rooting for the villain. Who the villain is, you will just need to read the book to find out. Hope you liked my fair and honest review.

Happy Reading🙂

P.S: If you want to know more about the scenes of the book follow Kaira Rouda on Social Media, she has been posting gorgeous pictures of Washington DC, the setting of the book.
